Thanks Bob, That's a good suggestion. As it turns out this mouse does have an, easy-to-use, on/off switch on the bottom (definitely a "why didn't I think of that moment".)
I think I'll try that for a while and later play with TuxOnIce on a experimental setup. Thanks for all the help guys, I'll let you know how it all turned out in a couple of weeks. Happy Holidays!!!
