Hi, Anthony.
The Eugene Linux Users group does have a weekly meeting in Mr. O's
garage, he'll be contacting you offlist with the meeting details.
I'm glad you're expanding your horizons and looking to learn linux :-)
We do like to help beginners, it let's us show off our hard-earned
knowledge.
I'd suggesting starting with one of the mainstream distros, Ubuntu for
instance is quite polished and relatively easy to use for basic tasks.
Or if you are looking to deal with an established corporate network
you might want to check out CENTOS which is the community version of
Redhat Enterprise Linux.
If you have trouble with your first install bring it to the meeting
and we'll help you figure out where you're going wrong.
Looking forward to seeing you thursday.

OK folks I know so little about Linux that I have not even reached
the level of dangerous. (I know windows from 3.1 to 7 pretty well

distribution or two running on one of my computers. So I figure a
good first step is too join the local Linux group. Are there any
meetings in the near future? Any chance of some help with a
beginner? (No you will not have to explain a mouse to me <grin>)
