Hey there.

Big news on public Linux usage in Lane County. NextStep secured a site for a
digital literacy training center (DLTC) at Broadway and Oak in downtown
Eugene. This is the first of our training centers - we hope to open one a
year over the next four years. The next one will be in Springfield.

The DLTC is connected to our ePower Our Community program where we will be
placing computers with our most marginalized youth students (via referrals
from school districts).

We will have 20 computers in our lab that have Ubuntu, Windows 7 and Windows
XP installed on them. The computers are built, now we need the key - which
well see in September.

Epower Our Community = placing computers in student¹s homes, providing
Internet access, and offering training at our digital literacy center for
the youth and their parents/guardians.

We will be placing Ubuntu computers with our ePower Our Community
participants (the other operating systems are for business trainings that we
hope to generate income form to support the Linux training).

We are looking for volunteer trainers. Must be friendly and able to be
patient with a wide variety of community members.

Training classes with start out being evening (starting at 6:00 PM) and
weekends classes.

If you have the knowledge, the temperament, and the juice, we¹d love to have
you.

Our ePower intern, Nicole, would love to hear from you. You can reach Nicole
at: nicole.borgaard (at) nextsteprecycling.org.

Let¹s empower the masses together. Tell yer friends.
