Dear DIYBio.eu mailing list subscribers,
As many of you requested, a new mailinglist for European biohackers
launched tonight:
[email protected]
# How to migrate
Over 100 people who ever posted on the old diybio-eu list will receive
an auto-generated invitation message titled “Confirmation for subscribe
europe”. All you need to do is reply to that message.
In case you never posted on the diybio-eu list before, migration is easy
too. Just send the following line to [email protected]:
subscribe europe
# How to start a new conversation
Once subscribed you can start a new topic by simply emailing to
[email protected]. For example, feel free to start biohack related
discussions, announcements of events and calls for contributions to
conferences, workshops and residencies.
# The advantages
* The new list has an active website, so new European biohackers can
find and join the list;
* The new list is publicly archived on Gmane and Mail-Archive.com. Don’t
worry, email addresses will be encrypted before archived.
# Moderation
The new list is not moderated. Spam is automatically filtered.
Subscription to the list is necessary to post, in order to prevent
getting caught in accidental CC conversations.
# Some background
About two and a half years ago the platform for European DIYBiologists
was envisioned at the FBI DIYBio meeting in San Fran. The European
delegates at this event felt the urge to set up a separate communication
channel to discuss topics that are most relevant within the European
cultural, social, political and legal context.
The website diybio.eu was launched back then to serve as a platform and
gave rise to this mailing list. That website has been gone for about a
year now, and attempts by many to get in contact with the owner and
revive it have been in vain. As the original installer of the platform I
still believe an open communication channel for European biohackers is
necessary and valuable.
# New website
In order to revamp the mailing list a new domain name was needed. So a
simple website has been launched today too. Please take a look on
www.biohacklabs.org.
It is a Wiki website, which allows anyone that registers an account to
edit and contribute. Backup and updates are auto enabled.
Old diybio.eu articles that I had in my backups are restored too, such
as the Community Biolabs Guidelines
http://www.biohacklabs.org/Community_Biolabs_Guidelines
All the best,
Pieter
