For the past two years, any slides and papers that were uploaded can be found

That's been a problem which was partly solved by Indico, although we'd ideally 
put them on the EuroPython site now. Actually, there's nothing to stop people 
doing exactly that.

[Conference vs. videos]

I agree with this: if someone sees an interesting talk video, they may be more 
encouraged to go to the next conference if they were already tempted to do 
so; if they weren't inclined to go, at least the speaker reaches some more 
people. I probably wouldn't go to some of the big open source conferences, 
but the videos are useful to reach (and at least try and persuade) people 
like me.
