Hi EuroPython. I'm a Python dev, I'll probably be submitting a talk
and/or tutorial (probably around pyCUDA and high performance
computing). I was up at the last EuroPython in Birmingham, I demo'd a
face-tracking robot head and pyCUDA in the lightning talks.

Here in the UK I'm one of the founders of the Brighton Python group.
I'm also the co-founder of a new mobile app that helps people at
events meet 'interesting people' by mining all the digital
fingerprints that we publicly release on the web. You can see a couple
of screenshots here and a bit of blurb:
http://socialtiesapp.com/

Behind the scenes I've got a bottle.py driven framework gathering
lanyrd/twitter/foursquare/geo data to figure out who is at an event,
what they talk about and who they know. There's no need to join 'yet
another social network', you just ask the API questions about who is
there and whether the user has recommendations of who to meet.
Everything is based on existing public social profiles and a natural
language model of conversations. The bottom line is that the app makes
events more social as you're given recommendations of who to meet (and
why, what they look like and who you have in common). My background is
as an artificial intelligence researcher in industry.

The app is in alpha on Android right now (the iPhone alpha is a few
weeks younger), we plan to have a final version of the app out in the
appstores in May. One of the goals is to integrate the API into other
people's conference apps (and/or whitelabel our app), here in Brighton
it'll be integrated in the bigger tech events later in the year. We've
just been demoing at a media conference at BAFTA's HQ yesterday.

I'd be very happy to open the API for free use by Python devs for
EuroPython, I'll certainly be using our app at the event. Also we
could white-label a version of our existing app as a 'EuroPython
social app' or...well, I'm open to suggestions.

Is there someone at your end with an Android device who might like to
try a demo?

Cheers,
Ian (UK)
