In the confirmation I received, it mentioned that I had to provide a credit card number in order to absolutely confirm the reservation, although since I'm arriving late (ie. after the reception closes on Sunday 2nd July), it *may* have been possible to avoid providing card details until after arrival. The helpful hostel reception took my card details over the telephone - I'm somewhat wary of giving that kind of information out over the Internet in unencrypted form (and I don't know what CERN's encrypted e-mail support is like). Given that this procedure isn't totally obvious, I'm inclined to mention it on the europython.org site, for those yet to complete their booking process.
