The E8M motor must be different than my E15.
The E15 is a compound wound motor.
It has a big thermal cutout switch that interrupts current flow through the
series winding/ armature. It has two ring terminals and 8 gauge wire
connected to this device.

The push on terminals are for the shunt field which carries very little
current.

Scott;

The two push-on terminals are for the internal thermal cut-out circuit
breaker that protects the motor from over temperature.
