I received this report about a NiMH Ranger. Only from the users of these
EV's can we get the truth about the viability of the EV. I would like to
see the good the bad and the ugly reports from other users of EV's.
Notice the comment about the auto company not releasing these figures.
The Internet is our only source of information.

Thanks for the report.

I am nearing 35K miles on my NiMH Ranger, which, with an average discharge
of 75-80% for 50mi, means it has cycled about 700 times. I have visited the
dealer *once* in over 2-1/2yrs of ownership - that's right, one visit and
it was required for software updates and recalled items that never effected
me. The performance has not changed, and I have acted like Joe Sixpack by
rarely opening the hood...or even washing it (it's a truck, it's suppose to
be dirty!). It's the opposite of what an EV1 owner would do, since those
that own sports cars are likely to keep them very clean. Does that have
anything to do with my pack's performance? No, but I also don't treat it
like a preoccupation common with engineer/owners - no palm pilot, no GPS,
just daily commuting and a few long trips with opportunity charging. I'm
not the only one getting this kind of cycle life, but others don't make it
public knowledge, and Ford would rather sweep us all under the carpet. If
they will let me re-lease !
for 3 more years, I'm sure to get more than 1000-1200 cycles, then I'll let
you know how it's doing.
