They said it was the left rear wheel bearing that went. Judging by the photos on the Tilley Foundation website, they would have been going anti-clockwise round the track. (I also gather that's the "normal" direction for oval track racing in the US - I don't follow it myself but my other half does.) It seems to me that the right hand side wheel bearings would have been under significantly more stress than the left. So if the excuse is "the car couldn't handle the track", the bearing that failed should have been on the right hand side of the car. I also noticed that it was Mr Tilley himself behind the wheel when the bearing allegedly failed. Interesting. Did anyone independently verify that the bearing had in fact failed? One last little rhetorical question: they are saying on the website "Independent engineer certified batteries were full after the drive."
