So why not just use the units from the Prius ? It's an electronically controlled 
Continuously Variable Transmission that was likely 
manufactured by someone else.

The code for the operating parameters would need to be rewritten, but there shouldn't 
be any problem handling the power, as it is at 
times driven by both the motor and the engine simultaneously in the Prius.
