On my 87 Sprint (which is closely related to the Metro) I used a set of Napa helper springs (Cheap, about $20) which happened to fit right inside the original rear springs. They made up nicely for 450 lbs added in back. These are the springs that go over a normal shock as helpers, but I put them inside the original rear sprint springs. I welded the lower cup in place to keep them located properly and added some thin rubber around the spring to keep it quiet. I don't know if the Metro is the same but I'm guessing it might be worth a look.
