Pure aluminum has the best corrosion resistance. The various things they alloy it with all worsen corrosion resistance. On trick is to get "clad" aluminum; some alloy with a coating of pure alumunum on the outside. Materials like this have trade names like "Al-clad" etc. Anodizing is another good coating to improve corrosion resistance. It is also an electrical insulator. It can be done even with high strength alloys. Since it is converting the metal surface itself (like stainless steel), it adds no weight. -- Lee A.
