Thanks for info Eric. This doesn't change my point and
just reinforces my (and your) opinion that even OEM then
may have bad ideas to save a buck.

Tell me why go into a trouble/expense cutting splines
(instead of simple keyway) if mating part doesn't have any?

I'll tell you: because previous hub model did have splines
and manufacturer didn't want to change rear axle when they've
changed the hub. Saves money? Sure. Good idea and right thing
to do? No even if physically attachment is strong if you
smash a hub onto the splines.

Just saving a buck was a top priority, no other explanation.

When I said "OEM" I should probably have said "respecting 
itself OEM".
