I like this, the marrying of Auto and Hi-Tech, and especially working with a company that has a "Don't be evil" company moto http://investor.google.com/corporate/code-of-conduct.html http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Don%27t_be_evil ... though there are ancient brick and mortar institutions that want Goggle to conform to their 'Dark-Side' methods http://www.forbes.com/sites/sap/2011/09/02/google-needs-to-drop-its-do-no-evil-thing/
Forgive the TNG analogies, but as I see people walking around Silicon Valley, Bluetooth connected to their smart-handhelds that are strapped to their hip, there are a large percentage of affluent people that want that future of laziness (let the computer do it) that will be moving our vehicles to be interconnected like the Borg, and we will eventually become like the Bynars http://en.memory-alpha.org/wiki/Bynar But there are always humans that will reject a total immersion in that craziness, and only take away what is good and useful without demeaning the human experience. [ TNG uniform /off ] I will be gone long before any of the above happens. So, until then we may see some good aspects to reduce accidents (let the autonomous AI drive the vehicle), traffic flow can be better handled with real-time feedback, and much more. There are many aspects to Auto Companies utilizing Hi-Tech, ... we just need to monitor its development (like a toddler) and keep it on track. ... I have a little history with something similar to the above (% BBT: Here we go ... %) When I was supporting the three buildings at the Sunnyvale, CA hp site, they had an Automotive division that was working with Maserati & Lotus using hp's digital<>analog computers to design a test station (this was long before PCs, and when vehicle test stations in garages wasn't even heard of/the norm). It was cool to go by and see what they were doing. I was again impressed with hp's forward thinking (as if they could see the future). By working their hi-tech (of the time) to test a vehicle via a plugin harness, they could test all vehicle components. : Sweet/way-cool : This also gave me the beginnings of my sharing newswire pieces before there were newswires as we know them today. At that site hp's small Automotive sales team (aligned with the aforementioned R&D), had subscriptions to all the Automotive magazines. I secured permission to peruse them during off hours, and scan/OCR news worthy items out of their pages (back then all the news came in paper form only, no Internet). After gleaning EV items out of the Automotive sales teams magazines for quite a while, one of the big sales types asked what I was doing. After explaining to him all my hard work to provide that printed information in electronic form to the evdl, he smiled with a smirk, and walked off. He had seen my Blazer at the various Health/Transportation fairs/shows that I had been invited to attend at the various hp/agilent/outside-company sites, so he knew I was committed to the EV cause. At one of the shows, this one held at the Sunnyvale site, where my Blazer was positioned up on the grassy lawn area for people to gaze at while they munched their lunch, he drove his then new roadster up and parked it nearby and killed the ice with the typical rev it up high and then turn the ignition off (that was an unnecessary even back then, but it was a way for hot-rod'r-wannaabees to get their attention-fix). I complemented him on his new ride http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plymouth_Prowler He was all smiles and tried to give me a dig with ' ... you won't see that much power in an electric car ...". I told him about the new Electric drag racing group being formed http://www.nedra.com/about_us.html He looked at me in disbelief, though I had told him I could show him pictures. He walked off because he could not best this EVangel :-) {brucedp.150m.com} -- http://www.fastmail.fm - Access all of your messages and folders wherever you are _______________________________________________ UNSUBSCRIBE: http://www.evdl.org/help/index.html#usub http://lists.evdl.org/listinfo.cgi/ev-evdl.org For EV drag racing discussion, please use NEDRA (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/NEDRA)
