I made the above post back in 2011, and have been regularly updating it.
The list is sorted by power capability, and then price. 
Select your EVSE according to what your vehicle charging capability is (some
EVSE are cheap and have a higher power capability), i.e.:

- Leaf & iMiev EVs, & Volt pih only have a half-powered 3kW charger on-board
- you will not be able to charge any faster than 3kW off a j1772 on those
vehicles.

- A Focus or Active-E EV can charge at 6.6kW, so the higher capability EVSE
would reduce vehicle charging times.

- The new RAV4-EV can charge at 9.6kW on a j1772.
