Normally I do not post EVSE newswire items much unless, like in this
case, I think there is something important going on.
I do not think anyone should find blame if Eaton wants more business by
putting a css combo coupler on their Level-3 (L3) EVSE. After reading
the above newswire, what can we gather other than a push from a Euro
automaker wanting the L3 standard to be css, and not CHAdeMO? I think
there is more.

Lets take a look at what we have:
-U.S. & European automakers want the css combo coupler used instead of
the well established Japanese j1772 & CHAdeMO couplers. Automakers that
are pushing for the css combo coupler are only making small quantities
of 'compliance-cars' available to the buying public.

and on the other hand we have
- A well established J1772 L2 & CHAdeMO L3 EVSE as part of the public
charging infrastructure. Plus purpose built Leaf and iMiev production
EVs that are proven viable and have both J1772 L2 & CHAdeMO L3
capabilities.

>From a buyer's/driver's standpoint, it is not a hard choice: get a Leaf
or iMiev and run with the existing infrastructure.
-or-
Get a less efficient one-off compliance car EV, and wait, and wait for
css L3 to be installed (quite a long time).-

Lastly, if VW must be coming out with vehicles that will use he css
coupler, so there may be a chance that there will be more EVs on the
market than just the Spark. VW have an R&D Lab just north of me in
Belmont (half-way between SF and Silicon Valley). When I stop by to
check on their free L3 Blink EVSE, I see VW's R&D vehicles going in and
out their locked gate area.

BTW I added a video link to that post that shows css inlet on a Spark EV
where the J1772 inlet would be (incorrectly mounted on the side for
European park-n-charge, when the U.S. need the inlet in the front like
the Leaf EV.).
