It's very popular for LiFePO4 battery to be used to start engines or
genset.  I used a 12V5AH LiFePO4 to replace an old 12V80AH lead acid
battery to start a 2.8L diesel SUV in 2008.

One company is making such LiFePO4 starter battery for airplanes at
http://www.aerolithium.com/ .
