In an EV, it isn't all about the motor (like ICE cars.)
It is the combination of the controller, battery pack, and motor, combined with the cooling of the controller and the motor. Also, the type of motor and the allowable duration of peak power both matter.
The Tesla has a very advanced design induction type motor, which allows quite a bit of HP for brief periods.
