If their lower priced 40kWh Tesla-S model had the limitation (no-l3)
Martin posted, from a consumer viewpoint, that would be a product killer
(less buyers). Instead of removing its l3 ability, I would rather make
other fluff as aftermarket optional add-ons (on-board computer, less
costly upholstery/interior, etc.)
A lower priced model by reducing the pack capacity, 'and' keeping its
level-3 charging ability, would be what I would want. Not only because I
would more likely physically fit in Tesla-S than a Leaf and iMiev that I
know I do not fit in, but my personal issues aside, the (above) lower
priced Tesla-S would be an in-between choice: the perks/prestige of
driving a Tesla, yet at a more affordable price.
Tesla's CEO did mention that eventually they will make a more affordable
model. Perhaps the 40kWh model would have competed with that cheaper
Tesla model.
