But batteries haven’t been able to produce the range required. Now there have been major leaps forward with battery capacity. The latest batteries can produce a range of up to 150 km. Thomas Bräunl describes his work investigating the effects of charging large numbers of cars at any one time. Current charge times are down to three hours at charging stations. The electricity cost is a small fraction compared to that of petrol or diesel.
