Cognitive scientists say that common sense is nothing more than things you have heard or experienced repeatedly, resulting in that information becoming hard-wired into your brain. Whether that information is accurate or not has no bearing, though in the past most of our information came from direct experience, so inaccurate information was generally weeded out. This is no longer so with many people now getting much of their information from TV, newspapers, and the internet, with no direct experience to confirm or contradict what is heard or read. So now much "common sense" can be completely incorrect, a fantasy created purely from deliberately fabricated falsehoods. "EV baiters" is just one example of such deliberate misinformation that comes overwhelmingly from one side of the political spectrum, with a cadre paid well to do it for a living. This is a disservice to our country, and will have very long term detrimental consequences.
