N.H.T.S.A. report says that Schneider Electric USA will recall 578 electric vehicle charging stations – 511 in the United States and 67 in Canada – for a potential connector defect. Schneider told the safety agency that the pins on the charger-to-vehicle connector might overheat and damage either the plug itself or the vehicle’s charging port. The recall affects Schneider’s EV230 EVlink electric vehicle charging stations. Schneider said it was aware of two reports of property damage, but no injuries, from the defect. The company reported learning of the problem through “ongoing” quality testing and monitoring. The affected charging units are sold to fleets and through retailers including Lowe’s and Home Depot. The report did not mention whether any automakers provide the systems, but Barbara Ruane, a spokeswoman for Schneider, wrote in an e-mail that none of the affected units – which were the 240-volt variety – were sold to automakers.
