I was watching 'Made in Germany' on Deutsche Welle TV (English-version).
At the end of the piece was a segment about a German conversion EV
company. It was said Germans like the lower 10,000 to 15,000 Euro price
of converting their ice vehicles.

It seems they buy their EV components from China. The segment showed
them installing li-ion batteries in rear spare tire well & under the
rear of the vehicle. A total of 30 li-ion cells were installed to give a
range of ~100km and a top-speed of ~120kph.

Two names mentioned as owners of the conversion company:
Marco Lorey and Rainer Lorey (possibly the son and Father).

The company's URL was shown on the controller they used in one of their
VW Bug conversions:

Electromobility - Machinery maker converts gas-powered vehicles

The Lorey company can make any car electric. The machinery maker can't
complain about falling demand, whether domestic or foreign. Lorey had to
lay off workers during the financial crisis. But thanks to the growing
interest in electric cars, the family-owned company was able to prevent
things from [getting] any worse.
