Thanks for the comments.  Elithion got me a new board quickly (it's been nice
dealing with them), and I installed it, and the problem went away.

As it turns out I can set the BMS down to -40C as the failure, and -39C as
the discharge warning limit parameter.  Since the board was failing at -29C,
I was able to drive.  Of course, I didn't have the protection against low
temperature situations with that setting, so it's just a temporary stop-gap
measure.
