It was on TV in the news last nigh here in NZ.
I bet they won't sell for $10k in NZ! Here, everything is as much as possible.
It will have to have frontal impact tests, etc. I see there are companies in
China selling hub motors for cars, like Evlithium who supply me.
http://www.evlithium.com/ prices are not too expensive, There are others too.

New Zealand car parallel parks with ease July 31, 2013

DUNEDIN, NEW ZEALAND (CNN) – A revolutionary electric car that could make
parking a breeze has been unveiled in Dunedin.

The joint project between engineers in New Zealand and China is the first of
its type in the world.

Parallel parking is many motorists’ worst nightmare, so just imagine having a
car that could do this.

This world first electric car with motors on each wheel is a joint project
between students in Dunedin, China and Taiwan.

It can hit a hundred kilometers an hour, and with a good battery could run
about town for a month at a time.

The car is expected to sell for around ten thousand dollars, not including the
battery It won’t be commercially available for at least two more years, but
it’s already got the motoring world in a spin.

Getting in a Spin Over Parking

The difficulty of parallel parking will be a thing of the past, if the
designers of a revolutionary new electric car have their way. The prototype
vehicle, designed by Chinese, Taiwanese, and New Zealand engineers, has four
separate electrically powered wheels, enabling effortless U-turns and sideways
parking at the touch of a button.
