If plugin TV commercials are to compete with ice ones, they need to be aired in similar ways as the ice ones are. That being, during the most popular shows.
I found on Monday in the middle of CBS's Late Show, the last commercial ad to show before returning to the program was a TV advertizement for the Smart ForTwo ED EV. I'll assume that the last commercial during that string is the less expensive slot, as most people would likely see the first one in a series before getting up to do something, or hitting fast-forward. Overall, the clip was pretty good and I think left the public with a taste of the EV's advantages, plus where to go to find out more. I searched YouTube but did not find that TV ad. So, I decided to pull together my hardware and software to create one myself. A few hours later, I found I had created a clip that would suffice for my first attempt, though not with the picture quality I would want (it was a file size to screen size compromise). Satisfied that my time was well spent, before uploading it, I checked again to see if anyone had created it. Yup, someone did, and it was created a week ago (now how did I miss that?). Well, theirs is better than anything I could create, so lets go with theirs. For those that do not want to wait for a stream to queue, I put some screen shots up on a page in a story-board layout for you to quickly and easily view http://brucedp13.20m.com/smart42ed13/ The first video clip (below) is what I saw: A Smart ForTwo ED EV is bopping down a dirt road (with tunes playing), way-out in the boonies somewhere, when it stops to eye the challenge of climbing a steep dirt hill (with rain ruts and holes no less). The unseen driver hit the accelerator for a running start, 75% up the steep hill the EV climbs-no-more, but it rooster-tails/slings dirt from the rear wheels, then gives up and rolls backwards back down the hill. In the next scene, the EV is viewed from below hot-dogging-it on a twisty dirt road with large boulders along the sides. Then the view comes to the EV climbing over a huge rock like the way a 4-wheeling Jeep or Land Rover would. The EV loses it, and ends up slouching over the rock, nose end first in a stuck position. The announcer says 'Driving an electric city car here makes about as much sense as ...' (switch view to the city where a GM SUV is too-huge to park in a parking space along the street) '... a gas guzzling SUV here.' The SUV lumbers off, and the EV zips in, hops the curb, and lands in a perfect parking position. Below are also several other Smart EV YouTube videos I found (sorted chronologically). Some were produced by smartUSA, and some were by reviewers, or other individuals. I included a non-English one because it shows what the English-speaking ones didn't cover. A few of the smartUSA made videos seem to be perfect for TV commercial use, while the other videos seem made for social/web-media use.
