Over the past two years a group of teens at Gladstone High School have been
getting hands on experience with the future of transportation.

They've taken a 1986 Chevrolet S10 and started transforming it into a truck
that runs completely on electricity. And they're doing all of this on their
own time with English teacher, Steve Carrigg, who initially bought the old
truck and invited his students to work on it with him in what has become
GEVO, the Gladstone Electric Vehicle Organization. Members of the Oregon
National Guard have become part of the team, donating their time, tools, and
expertise.

Steve Carrigg launched a crowdfunding campaign on IncitED, a local education
crowdfunding website, in order to pay for the parts necessary to complete
the build. So far IncitED has helped them raise nearly $1,300 and connect
with Rae EV of Sherwood who will donate 24 high quality AGM batteries, a
Curtis controller and steel battery enclosures that will help make Project
S10 E a reality this fall.

"This donation is a major step toward having all the components in place for
GEVO to move ahead with the conversion this school year," said GEVO adviser
Steve Carrigg. "We are very excited because it gives us some great batteries
to power the truck. Batteries were our biggest financial challenge."

Carrigg hopes that the community will get involved by donating to the
campaign and spreading the word about how this will benefit the students at
Gladstone, "This project has so much potential for kids to learn different
things and potentially lead to future careers like electrical engineering.
The range of skills we practice during the project is really diverse, things
like teamwork, welding, and even things like upholstery. They have a certain
amount of freedom to work in different ways since they're not in a
traditional classroom, and they're getting to work with professionals from
the Oregon National Guard. In the future, we'll see more electric vehicle
repair shops as opposed to traditional because people are starting to see
electric vehicles as a viable option so they are becoming more popular. The
experience these kids are getting now will serve them well for the rest of
their lives."

Raising money for the charging system, paint for the truck, necessary
metalwork and fabrication continues to be important. The GEVO crowdfunding
campaign runs through Sept. 9 and offers supporters a chance to name the
truck, a copy of the documentary film "Who Killed the Electric Car," their
business or organization logo on the truck, and a chance to meet local
electric car pioneer, John Wayland, among other perks. Those interested can
