Unlike modern internal combustion engines, this system has no gears, clutches, spark plugs, filters, belts, or oil. It never needs a tune-up! And it's quiet. According to the system designer, Austin, TX based, KLD Energy Technologies, their electric drive system is also capable of performing in extreme conditions, including heat, cold, torrential rainfall, dust and sand storms. Three vehicles using the KLD oneDRIVE system are shown here: the KLD oneDRIVE Chassis, the Kombi Electric Utility Vehicle by Cenntro Motors, and the 2-Wheel scooter with KLD's oneDRIVE by Vmoto and Eclimo. KLD Energy says, "A dedicated team of Ph.D.'s, engineers, and visionaries has made the KLD oneDRIVE system a commercially viable and intelligent product designed to change the way the marketplace envisions efficiency. Our cutting-edge technology demonstrates the value in creating thoughtful solutions to the world's toughest challenges." KLD also notes that it has "discovered an optimal system balance that allows for the elimination of other drive system components such as the transmission and differential, which prevents excessive power loss and extra weight. Our ground-up engineering approach makes the vehicle weight and power consumption as low as possible to save on battery cost," and "this propulsion and generation system is applicable in a broad range of markets, including elevators, air conditioners, pumps, generators and many other applications." KLD, founded in 2008, recently won an Edison Award for innovation and excellence for energy sustainability for transportation, and it is dedicated to community, noting, "We embody this commitment through charitable giving, volunteerism, and community partnerships." KLD claims its product is a notch up from Tesla. If you want to find out, you'll have to cajole Santa out of one of those 100 limited edition scooters destined for private users. See KLD at the Green Fleet Conference & Expo at the Phoenix Convention Center in Phoenix AZ, October 1-2, 2013; the SAMPE Integrated Design Symposium in Shanghai Oct 29--31, and the EVS 27 Expo Electric Vehicle Symposium in Barcelona, Nov 17-19. Note: KLD notes that the 2-Wheel scooter is sold by Eclimo and Vmoto. KLD provides the drive systems but doesn't sell the vehicles. They estimate that the 2-Wheel will eventually sell for around $7K USD. Right now there is no Vmoto or Eclimo distributor in the US, though they do sell the vehicle in other parts of the world.
