The concept has no doors, no rear window and a completely open roof, as well as a futuristic and rounded interior design - but it points to a new model that will be coming to showrooms. This concept car gives us more of an idea about what to expect from Smart's upcoming four-seater model called the ForFour that will be launched at the end of 2014. This car will be developed with Renault alongside their new Twingo model. There will be an electric version, like the FourJoy concept, and all models will have the engine in the rear. Smart's new ForFour will likely focus on city driving for a family of four, and will probably have the same small turning circle and compact dimensions as the FourJoy concept, which is a little bit shorter than a Volkswagen up! city car. Aside from the electric motor, the car could also get a small 900cc turbocharged petrol engine. The Smart FourJoy concept features elements crucial to the Smart brand, including a small size, tight turning circle for easy city driving and a quirky, distinctive design. The FourJoy concept uses the same 73bhp electric motor as the Smart FourTwo Electric Drive, which takes about seven hours to charge up fully. Charging time could be reduced to one hour with a fast-charging cable. The current Smart ForTwo Electric Drive can go 90 miles on one full charge, but since this new concept car is larger – with space for four – it's unlikely to be able to go quite as far as that. Smart claims that the average commute is between 24 and 37 miles, however, so short city trips are the Smart FourJoy's main priority. Smart describes the interior as being like modern lounge furniture, with a very futuristic look. There are lots of curved surfaces and touch-sensitive buttons on the dashboard, as well as plenty of white materials to give it an ultramodern look. It even features electric skateboards and matching helmets in the boot to cover short distances in the city without using the car.
