The Focus Electric is priced from £33,500 (or £28,500 with the full £5k plug-in car grant) and in a bid to avoid equipping its entire dealer network with expensive servicing equipment, the brand hopes companies will acquire a number of electric Focus models. It is estimated that just 25 Focus Electrics will make it to UK roads in 2013 with Ford selling the zero-emission model on a case-by-case basis but mainly to fleet customers. As few as 25 Focus Electrics will make it to UK roads in 2013 Ford’s debut electric car is powered by a 107kW electric motor, producing the equivalent of 142PS, around the same as Ford’s 2-litre diesel Focus. The Focus Electric has a 84mph top speed and a maximum range of 100 miles but its 23kWh liquid-cooled lithium-ion battery can be recharged from a standard household 32amp plug socket in three to four hours. The petrol and diesel-powered Focus remains a popular car amongst fleet buyers and any businesses tempted by the idea of an electric Focus should be aware that for £28,500, they could buy a mid spec Nissan Leaf or two entry level Renault Zoes (£13,995 with £5k grant). Ever-shrinking CO2 Besides being Ford’s first 100% electric car, the Focus Electric is Ford’s tenth car to appear in UK showrooms to boast CO2 emissions under 100g/km. A sub-99g/km, 64mpg Mondeo hybrid is expected to be available from launch when the long-awaited fifth generation model arrives at the end of 2014. Barb Samardzich, Vice President of Product Development for Ford of Europe, said: “Ford is leveraging our global experience and expertise to roll-out a range of electrified vehicles that offers a wide and compelling power of choice. “European customers care deeply about the environment and are increasingly seeing electrified vehicles as a way of balancing those concerns with a commitment to car ownership. “Ford has a proud heritage of making innovative technology available to as many people as possible and will provide one of the industry’s most comprehensive ranges of sub-100g/km CO2 cars withthe variety and flexibility to suit the needs of all our European customers.” [© 2000-2013 Really Good Domains] http://www.thegreencarwebsite.co.uk/blog/index.php/2013/09/05/ford-focus-electric-goes-on-uk-sale-from-33500/ Ford Focus Electric goes on UK sale from £33,500 September 05, 2013 The 100%-electric Ford Focus is now available to buy in the UK from £33500 (or £28500 with the Government's full £5k Plug-In Car grant). http://www.am-online.com/news/2013/9/5/ford-focus-electric-goes-on-sale-in-uk/33569/ Ford Focus Electric goes on sale in UK 05/09/2013 The Ford Focus Electric is now on sale in the UK, complementing the company's line-up of fuel efficient petrol and diesel powered vehicles. http://www.earthtechling.com/2013/09/ford-moves-into-europe-with-green-car-strategy/ Ford Moves Into Europe With Green Car Strategy [2013/09/06] Ford, seeing good results with its green vehicle strategy in the United States, moves into Europe with plans for three electrified cars in the ...
