Here you go John. Since Roland is from the US I'll give units used in the US to SI units. If I understood you right, you wanted what "almost" everyone uses. Well, I say use SI regardless of how long it has been in existence. The reality is, that isn't always the best thing to do nor will everyone agree with me. (If you want a good reason to keep "traditional" units in some instances read the back story of the Boeing 757 (or was it a 767) that ran out of fuel over Canada a few years ago.)
"F = it seems not linear. Please use Celsius or kelvin ?" Fahrenheit degrees is a linear scale just like Celsius (centigrade) degrees and Kelvins (note that Kelvin is not a degree, it is an energy unit). It is just that the slope is not the same as C or K. Furthermore, the y-intercept isn't the same either. F=1.8C+32 or C=(F-32)/1.8 I just remember that freezing of water is 32°F=0°C, boiling point of water is 212°F=100°C, body temperature is 98.6°F=37°C, -40°F=-40°C, and that a comfortable room temperature is 72-74°F which is about 23°C. 1 foot = 30.48cm 1 mile = 5280 feet = 1.6km 1 BTU = 1055 Joules = 0.252 kcal 1 US Gal = 3.79L 1 kg mass weighs about 2.2 pounds (lbs) on Earth 1 pound/square inch = 51.7 mmHg = 6.895 kPa 1 HP = 745.7 W Roland gave a very clear definition of R-value so you should be enough to figure out what you want if you are really interested. Just print a big poster with the above and attach a little calculator to it with a string and you will always have a way to figure out what people in the US might be talking about. Finally, it is very common for things which originate in a particular country to continue to have traits from that country be relatively dominant in that venue. Considering that the EVDL started in the United States and continues to be hosted in the US and the fact the the switch over to metric in the 1980s wasn't handled very well (my opinion) the US still uses the "old units" so you might just have to put up with it. ); To quote Martin Winlow: "Good luck with that one, my friend!" -- David D.
