Brown Electric car maker Tesla Motors Inc. opened a charging station at the Nut Tree shopping center beside Interstate 80 in Vacaville. Palo Alto-based Tesla pitched the "supercharger" station as a way for owners of its cars to charge up on the way to ski at resorts near Lake Tahoe. This station can recharge half a Tesla car's capacity in 20 minutes. Nut Tree is a familiar roadside attraction and stopover for Bay Area drivers on their way to the Sierras. The shopping center has outlet stores and numerous restaurants, and a Wal-Mart supercenter. Nut Tree started as a family fruit stand by the highway in 1921. Elon Musk is CEO of Tesla. His company got its start selling electric sportscars priced at more than $100,000 each. Since then it has moved towards the mainstream by developing a sedan and building it at the former NUMMI plant in Fremont.
