Phew, after seeing what these "minimal" EVSE's are still costing these days,
I'm feeling a little less like a sucker after having paid $799 for our
Schneider EVlink unit last year.
I elected to do that, and to install it myself, rather than go with the quoted
$2k+ for a Blink EVSE to be installed by their contractor (Blink still had a
$400 rebate available at the time). I spent about $200 on permit, conduit,
wire, etc., and ended up with a simple 240V, 30A charger that doesn't require
an Internet connection to function. The only "fancy" features are a
delayed-start timer, and a segmented graph that tells how many hours it took
to charge.
The installation manual requested 8AWG wire and a 40A breaker. Our Leaf only
has the 3.3kW onboard charger, so our EVSE has room to grow.
Regards,
Marion

Hi all,
Thanks for mentioning me Peri.
The 'package' is ready and I've already sold some TucsonEV-SE's.
As it is on my website, www.TucsonEV.com/TucsonEV-SE.html, the TucsonEV-SE
is configured for 30A on 240, or 15A on 120. With the feed wire upgraded to
8AWG and the cord in the J1772 cord upgraded to 8AWG (contactor is already
40A), it is good for 40A which is what the Rav4 charges at, or 9.6kw.
The price is $675, competitive with the AV Turbocord (I'll throw in a free
120 to 240 adapter plug...)

Being curious, I started to look up prices for the components. While
doing so, I
ran across TusconEv.com, which doesn't appear to have the complete package
but you can get a pretty good idea.

For example, a J1772 plug with 8m,.50A cord is $210 + shipping. It
includes the
proximity circuit, so (I think), all you need to add is the range plug at
the other
end.

Perhaps David we might want to ask how they have the nerve to charge $850
for a basic 30A 240 V unit and $2,500 and more. Like $500 to $5,000 to
install it
in your home? I know I wonder about that all the time...
