I don't think anybody is making a killing selling any EV conversion products, even the J1772 items. Most likely, most of those selling the stuff are now gone or on their way out. Last count I found a 45% Out of business when attempting to contact them. The J1772 is not dumb, in fact it is better than any other connection that has been available for EV's. It provides a excellent connection, no heat problems like the other connections, comfortable to use and SAFE.
