Hi Martin, I also received the Email from Chargemaster outlining their steep and very confusing charges and returned the reply as follows:-
"Dear Mr Martell, I have been the recipient of one of your HomeCharge Units which was installed at my home address under the government sponsored program as I understand many others were. Your announcement below regarding usage charges was I can assure you quite a shock and very puzzling. I have a number of cards which are issued by various organisations to cover the odd time I may need to drop in to a charge point and apart from a yearly cover charge, none of them actually charges for energy used as the cost is quite low. My understanding was that businesses that had one of your charge points installed were looking to draw customers in who would then purchase goods as they would have time to kill. Even a full charge on most EV's of around 24kW would only cost about £3.00. Many require far less. You intimate that most charge point schemes are due to introduce charges but I would argue that very few are doing so. Source London are free as are Ecotricity's and so many others I haven't the time to research or mention. After looking at the "Zap Map" charging point map I note that most of the points I know are yours are listed as "restricted access". I will not be paying for access to your charge points as it quite simply isn't cost effective to pay what appears to be double the actual energy cost even if I don't actually use it. The monthly cost is punitive and I would be surprised if anyone takes you up on it. With the range of EV's increasing year on year and people like Dale Vince of Ecotricity as well as Kevin Sharpe of ZeroCarbonWorld installing hundreds of free charge points across the country, I think you will soon be forced into a re-think. On another note, can you confirm that the charge point installed by your company at my house and funded by the government will stay free to use.
