New sports cars always make our ears prick up, even more so if they’re
purely electric.

The Pariss Electric Roadster has been flying somewhat under the radar, last
appearing at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show back in March. Yet its
specifications hint at a fairly potent combination of energy-efficiency and
performance.

The French sports car features a carbon fiber monocoque chassis, similar to
what one would expect to see on a supercar or racecar, and takes inspiration
from Alfa Romeo’s recent 4C. The mid-engined Italian coupé is an excellent
benchmark, demonstrating the profound benefits that adopting an
ultra-lightweight philosophy can yield.

Two electric motors – one driving each axle (yes, it’s all-wheel drive) –
provide a total of 180 kilowatts (241hp), which is almost identical to the
Alfa and enough to fling the Roadster from 0 to 62 mph in 3.7 seconds.
Estimated range is healthy for an electric car, too, at 125 miles, or 435
miles with the optional range extender.

Pariss hasn’t revealed any details about the range extender, which was
reportedly sourced from Polaris, other than the 220-pound weight penalty it
incurs.

Unfortunately, the package that contains all of that hardware isn’t the
easiest on the eye. While upstart Pariss Electric may deserve a little slack
on its first effort, we think the Roadster looks a little generic, although
not at all disagreeable. Those slit headlights are probably meant to convey
aggression (and remind us of the Ferrari F12 somewhat), but they just make
the car look like its sucking on a sour candy.

The Roadster’s estimated 80,000 euro base price (about $110,112 at current
exchange rates) puts it far above the Alfa Romeo 4C, which is expected to
retail for $54,000 in the US. There is, however, a more appropriate
competitor.

The Detroit Electric SP:01 seems like an obvious rival for the Roadster.
Assuming both make it to production, they will likely be the only
all-electric sports cars on the market in the near term. Both have two
seats, a sub-four-second sprint time and aggressive styling.

Interestingly, Detroit Electric previously quoted an identical 0 to 62 mph
time for its Lotus Elise-based sports car. It’s expected to retail for
around $135,000 but will be built in Holland, not Detroit.

Pariss Electric, meanwhile, says it has already received 60 orders for its
sports car. There’s no word yet on its availability outside of France.

The Pariss electric Roadster will be available with an optional Range
Extender which will increase the autonomy from 200km(125miles) to
700km(435miles). The very high tech system will only add 100kg(220lbs) to
the Pariss.
