Pod Point’s new ‘Charging around the UK’ (#CATUK) journey will set off from London on June 12 in a Renault Zoe, and head off around no less than 15 towns and cities around the country over the course of 17 days, heading as far north as John O’Groats and all the way down to Land’s End. Sponsored by Renault, the journey was planned to showcase how extensive the UK’s charging infrastructure is becoming as well as to showcase the capabilities of modern EVs . Along the way, it will use a variety of charging locations including gyms, residential addresses, supermarkets and petrol stations, as the ZOE makes its way to the finish line in the country’s green capital, Brighton. Renault will get into the spirit of things by hosting four events of its own to coincide with the journey. Through its dealer network, the carmaker will lay on entertainment and activities in Bath on June Newcastle on June 13, Cardiff on June 20, Bath on June 21 and Bristol on June 22. There will also be a Renault Zoe on display at the starting point at Ripley’s Believe It Or Not!, in the heart of Piccadilly on June 12, 2014. The Zoe will also be taking to BBC Top Gear’s infamous Dunsfold track en route and will be offering fans the chance to win a tour of the Red Bull Racing team’s Formula 1 HQ in Buckinghamshire, through a Facebook competition. Commenting on its involvement, Renault UK’s Ben Fletcher, Product Manager, Electric Vehicle Programme, said: “We’re pleased to be supporting the Charging around the UK campaign. ZOE has the longest range of any affordable, mass market electric vehicle. It’s quiet, refined and nippy too, so it’s the perfect companion for such a long road trip. The average supermini covers 8,000 miles in a year, so for ZOE to be tackling a quarter of this distance in just two weeks, will show just how viable it is as an alternative to fossil-fuelled transport.” Along the way POD Point is expected to be breaking world records, including cooking with a Michelin starred chef and racing down mountains while they charge.
