Tesla is speaking to 'EVs are here to stay'-aware automakers

Tesla previously had a partnership with Toyota, which produced a RAV4 EV. That relationship is now over, but Tesla is still keen to work with other major automakers, and vice versa. And now we can confirm that just last week executives from BMW and Tesla had a sit down meeting to discuss and strategize the future of electric cars. At the moment, BMW builds the i3 and i8, but it is actively seeking to develop its EV technologies and Tesla is perhaps the best partner to collaborate with. However, Tesla is also speaking to other automakers in order to make new friends in the industry. In other words, mainstream automakers are now fully aware that EVs are here to stay. What’s more is that Tesla CEO Elon Musk made clear that his company is not interested in protecting its technology patents against others, just so as long as the technology is being used in "good faith." So basically, Tesla is sort of outsourcing its technology to help the world at large battle carbon emissions. Musk even made this clear in a recent blog post: Tesla "can’t build electric cars fast enough to address the carbon crisis…the world would all benefit from a common, rapidly-evolving technology platform."
