Greetings EVDL, Polaris is making an off road utility vehicle that is battery powered and costs about $11,299. On a motorcycle chassis design E-mail list that I read it was posted today that Polaris is going to sell a three wheel "motorcycle" vehicle named Slingshot for $23,999 ($19,999 without a windshield and plain wheels). The Slingshot has a gasoline powered four cylinder motor and manual transmission. When looking at the powertrain I found it very interesting that the drive shaft goes to a 90 degree gear box, then a belt is used to drive the rear wheel. The entire drive train from the motor to the gear box could be removed and an electric motor installed to drive the final belt drive with a small pulley. The rear wheel has a somewhat large pulley, and possibly the rear 20 inch wheel could be swapped out for a smaller 15, 16 or 17 inch wheel to increase the reduction of the drive to keep the electric motor rpm's up. It was just a quick thought that occurred to me. I do not like the looks of the three wheeler. However, in five or ten years if I find a used one with a bad motor, it could easily be converted to electric and batteries stuffed into the empty engine compartment. Definitely your second car though as it does not have a roof.
