What is the problem, other than parasitic power loss?

I have an S-10 conversion, manual transmission with clutch removed.
...but sometimes having one would be nice.

In most conditions, I can stay in 2nd gear all the time, but when I
get up to 40 mph I need to shift up to 3rd gear, that takes 5 seconds
to let the motor slow down to match the transmission with no
acceleration. Typically not an issue to slow from 40 to 37 mph while
doing this....

BUT, sometimes I want to start off in 1st gear (up a hill) but then
switch to 2nd gear. Having to wait the same 3-5 seconds seems like an
eternity when there are cars behind you wondering why you are slowing
from 20mph to 18 mph instead of continuing to accelerate up to 35mph.

If your route has a lot of stop and go driving (especially with stops
at the bottom of hills) or if you want to be able to shift quickly for
racing or whatever....keeping the clutch may be worth the efficiency
loss.

I'm certainly not going to go to the trouble of finding and putting
one back in...but if I was doing a conversion through a manual
transmission I might leave the clutch in and play with it for a while
to see if I wanted to keep it or ditch it.
