Which sounds good, except for that any persons currently zipping around in a old smog machine will now ardently cling onto that diesel vehicle until they day that goes into place. Translation: they won’t be trading up to an EV anytime soon. Nissan, apparently unwilling to sacrifice sales over the next 8 months or so, has decided to take it upon themselves to help promote their lineup of EVs (LEAF and e-NV200) by upping the discount on both models so that customers still receive the full 10 000 € bonus before the program actually begins. This means that a new Nissan LEAF can now be had for as little as € 14,390 ($18,200 USD) w/battery rental (which starts at €99/month) According to Nissan France (and please forgive my Canadian-learned French translation): Effective October 15th to December 31st, 2014, Nissan is offering customers savings of up to € 10,000, which including the environmental bonus of € 6,300, plus the recovery of € 2,200 for a diesel vehicle over 10 years old, as well as a further € 1,500 discount. The study may preview a future production model, with Nissan saying a zero emission van can access all current and future clean air zones, as well as drive inside buildings, making it suitable as shuttle transport for VIPs. The e-NV200 VIP Concept features a two-tone metallic blue exterior, with two-tone alloy-wheels and a wraparound blue decal. However, the main attraction is the luxurious interior, which features a white leather upholstery with blue accents, black trim and carpets and a piano black finish on the control surfaces. The top half of the cabin, including the headlining, window surrounds and pillar covers are white to create a spacious feel. Although it’s a minivan, the e-NV200 VIP Concept only features two rear seats that come with integrated seat belts, armrests and extending leg rests. The “Club Class” rear seats are positioned well behind the sliding door in order to extend legroom up to 670mm (26.4in) and accommodate tall passengers. The rear passengers face a 21.5-inch DSP monitor which can display movies or other images from a passenger’s digital device, such as a smart phone, tablet, or computer. Furthermore, the central console between the rear seats includes controls for the monitor and room lights and houses a drinks fridge. The study also features Nissan’s Smart Rear View mirror, which enables clear rearward visibility under all conditions. Power comes from the same 80kW AC synchronous electric motor and 48-module lithium-ion battery from the production e-NV200 and Leaf. So will we see a production e-NV200 VIP shuttle? “Based on demand some of its features could easily be offered as affordable aftermarket conversions,” said Dany Boulenger, Nissan’s Global Corporate Sales, Division General Manager.
