Georgia lawmakers almost eliminated a tax credit for electric vehicles earlier this year. Electric car advocates say they are preparing to fight for the credit during the 2015 legislative session. Michael Beinenson, a board member of the EV Club of the South, told WABE the tax credit is critical for Georgia’s car buyers. Beinenson says lawmakers are more interested in saving money than in protecting the environment. “I’m sure this tax credit will be changed if not eliminated at the next session,” said Beinenson. “We’re hoping that it’s just changed.” Atlanta is second only to San Francisco in the U.S. for electric car ownership. Much of that is the result of one of the most generous state tax credits in the country – up to $5,000 back on electric cars, the station adds.
