I, for one, did precisely that. When I saw the Lexus ad

degrading the planet we all rely on, I would stop buying Toyotas of any
kind. And stop advising others to buy Toyotas when asked for my opinion as
a "car guy". The only way they could bring me back into the fold would be
to build - and actively promote - a pure electric vehicle.

I seriously doubt I am alone.

No; you certainly aren't alone. You have LOTS of company!

When Toyota sought to terminate the leases on their RAV4-EVs, they were inundated with pleas from consumers desperate to keep them. (Toyota reneged, unlike GM and the other automakers).

When the Toyota Prius came to the US in 2000, I tried to get one from every local dealer. No dice; they all tried to sell me an SUV or something else instead. I had to order it online from Toyota America, and wait 6 months to get it.

Later, I tried to buy their plug-in Prius. Again, they ignored my pleas, and wouldn't sell me one.

And every time I took our Prius in for service, I ask yet AGAIN when I can buy an EV. I'm always turned away.

I have an image in my mind. A Toyota dealership, with and electric car in the showroom, and mobs of people outside clamoring to get in and buy it. And the manager inside, with dark glasses and a seeing-eye dog, telling a reporter, "I don't see any demand for these cars".
