I bought some older, but new AVCON charging stations and have converted one to the new J1772 plug (round pistol)
as you find on all public charging stations. This "Power Pak" from AVCON Corporation was one of the first to implement the (old) J1772 standard, which is still usable today with either a converter or the swap of connector that I did. Anybody interested in a cheap, non-networked charging station that does not need an RFID card, because it simply starts charging as soon as you plug it in? I am saving the AVCON claws, in case someone likes to make a conversion cable from new J1772 inlet to AVCON claw to plug in his Ford Ranger or other AVCON equipped EV. Let me know, I am willing to let the AVCON claws go cheap or I can make this conversion cable for you. The only drawback that I have heard about the AVCON Power Pak is that if your car interrupts the charging session (the NiMH Ford Ranger tended to do this when it was too hot outside and the batteries overheated) then the Power Pak is said to not automatically restart the charging session, you need to take the plug out and insert it again to restart charging, but I am not aware that this is a problem with newer vehicles and I have not seen this behavior either. The good thing with this charger is that it is not controlled by a company who can lock you out or force you to start paying for your own charger. Once you buy it, it is yours to do with it as you please. 6kW J1772 Level 2 EV charging station <http://www.ebay.com/itm/281494094755?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid= p3984.m1555.l2649> http://www.ebay.com/itm/281494094755 I have it up on Ebay, but I am willing to make a special price for someone from the EVDL that wants to buy one (or two, or three) Hope this helps someone to get a better Level 2 solution!
