According to a Tuesday AST dispatch, 57-year-old Jack West was headed north near Mile 85 of the Parks in a blue 2011 Tesla Roadster when he “lost control on the icy road surface” and crashed. Troopers arrived at the scene shortly after 5:20 p.m. Monday, where they found the destroyed car and spoke with West. “West reporting wearing his seat belt and sustained non-life-threatening injuries as a result of the crash,” troopers wrote. In a Tuesday email to Channel 2, AST spokesperson Tim DeSpain said West wasn’t hospitalized after the wreck. “Driver was conscious,” DeSpain wrote. “Treated on scene for cuts on head and he declined transport.” The sleek Tesla Roadster, Tesla Motors’ first electric car, got extensive press coverage for its zero-to-60-mph time under four seconds -- as well as its U.S. base price of $109,000. A CNN report said Tesla sold about 1,650 Roadsters before moving to end production in 2011. According to DeSpain, roads in the area were extremely slippery at the time of the crash. “DOT was out sanding, but roads from Willow to Trapper Creek were pure ice,” DeSpain wrote.
