I think the sell will be easy as soon as the gassers start regularly getting
smoked by the electrics. At that point, the testosterone poisoning will start
to kick in, and nobody will want to be seen in a wimpy gasser that can't
compete with the power of the electrics. Once "electric" has the same
connotations as "supercharger," the deal is sealed.

Of course, automakers could easily blow it, at least at first, by putting
under-powered motors in muscle car EVs. But, if they take their inspiration
from the Zombie 222 project, they won't be able to make electric muscle cars
fast enough.

Another big turning point will be when electrics reign supreme on the
racetrack. We're already in that transition phase, with Eva's KillaJoule
holding multiple records that have nothing to do with electricity. If she's the
first to 400 mph -- and she well could be -- then you'll see all the other land
speed racers very quickly transition to electric just to stay in the game. The
same is soon going to happen in the drag racing world thanks to the NEDRA
people, and there's already an electric Formula One circuit. NASCAR is likely
to be the last holdout, but even they're going to have to give in eventually
lest they get tarred with the "old and busted gasser" brush.

You may be right about the truck scene -- and certainly with respect to the
"coal rollers." But a lot of those are also work trucks that actually need the
torque to haul heavy loads, and a lot of those have daily milages well within
the range of an electric. Combine with dramatically reduced operating expenses,
and an electric F-150 (or equivalent) makes an awful lot of sense for huge
numbers of contractors and business fleets. And, again, testosterone poisoning
will again start to kick in when the electric models laugh off loads that the
gassers get bogged down with.

I can easily imagine a coal roller blowing smoke on his way to the job site,
driving the fleet electric truck with insanely heavy loads all day long...and
dreaming up his new vehicle as an electric that spits sparks at passers-by
rather than engulfs them in noxious fumes.
