Utility vehicles: PG&E to unveil utility trucks capable of shortening or
eliminating electric outages at EV Ride and Drive at San Francisco
International Auto Show.

WHAT
• Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) will unveil the utility industry’s
first plug-in electric hybrid drivetrain Class 5 work trucks featuring 120kW
exportable power that can be used to shorten or eliminate planned and
unplanned outages at the San Francisco International Auto Show. This
exportable power technology on these trucks can power up to 100 homes during
outages.

• PG&E is also sponsoring an electric vehicle ride and drive, open to the
public, from 11:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M. on Monday, November 24 & Tuesday,
November 25. Models from Ford, General Motors, Mercedes, BMW, Smart, &
Nissan will be featured. The PG&E EDI truck will be used to charge the EVs
between test drives.

About the EDI Utility Truck:

• PG&E partnered with Efficient Drivetrains Incorporated (EDI) and Altec
Industries to develop the vehicles, which were designed, built and tested in
the heart of California at EDI’s plant in Dixon.

• The 120kW exportable power capacity is capable of powering 80 percent of
the transformers in PG&E’s service area.

• The vehicles feature an all-electric range of approximately 30 miles and
will reduce emissions by up to 80 percent when compared to conventional fuel
vehicles.

• PG&E estimates that each EDI truck will save the utility over 850 gallons
of fuel per year.

• PG&E will begin to roll-out these vehicles across its service area in
2015.

WHO
• Dave Meisel, Senior Director of Transportation Services, PG&E
• Joerg Ferchau, CEO, EDI

WHEN
• Monday, November 24, 2014
• 10:00 11:30 a.m.: Product demonstrations, interview opportunities

WHERE
• Moscone South, 747 Howard Street, San Francisco. Vehicle will be staged in
front of the hall.

VISUALS
• EDI/PG&E utility truck on display and available for demonstrations

• The EDI truck will be used to charge the electric vehicles used in the
test drive

WHY
• PG&E is committed to driving economic vitality in its service area, and
that is why the utility has partnered with these two locally-based companies
to develop the most technologically advanced vehicles in the utility
industry. The vehicles manufactured by EDI for PG&E are the first electric
hybrid drivetrain to feature utility-grade exportable power in the industry.
If PG&E were to replace all class five vehicles in its fleet with the EDI
trucks, the utility would save over $3 million annually in fuel costs and
reduce carbon emissions by over 19 million pounds.
PG&E operates the greenest utility fleet in the nation, with nearly 3,500
alternative fuel vehicles.
