You can buy supercaps / ultracaps of a suitable size to function in an EV. ...but you get marginally higher peak wattages with some CALB batteries, and substantially higher peak wattages with A123 batteries, than you do with supercaps. And the batteries have much larger storage capacities and far superior self-discharge rates. For less money.
