I receive offline email inquiries about my posts:

So, with that in mind, I will respond online with this post so that all my know. When I post newswires, I know they will be placed in the evdl archives, and found by the search engines. So, my efforts will have a life long after the initial post. With that in mind, before I post, I think how many ways this post will be useful or thought of. In the above person's case, they have strong stated views against heavy, inefficient, possibly not street legal (at this time) donor vehicles for conversion. Yet if one searched the evdl archive for heavy, inefficient, and or not-street-legal vehicle topics, several hits come up showing evdl member interest in just such vehicles: http://electric-vehicle-discussion-list.413529.n4.nabble.com/EVLN-PapaBravo-heavy-duty-4x4-1-ton-LiFeP04-e-mining-trucks-td4491811.html EVLN: PapaBravo heavy duty 4x4 1-ton LiFeP04 e-mining trucks Mar 21, 2012 | 41 views http://electric-vehicle-discussion-list.413529.n4.nabble.com/Electric-Tractor-for-a-Farm-tp4667500.html Electric Tractor for a Farm... EV hobbyists and purists need to lighten up. As a 4x4 hobbyist and "purist", it used to drive me nuts to see jacked up "state street" trucks parading around with big tires, knowing full well that they never went off-road. I changed my tune when I realized that they were helping the off-road aftermarket, which ultimately helped make more products available for people like me. http://electric-vehicle-discussion-list.413529.n4.nabble.com/Large-Pickup-Conversion-tp436834p436875.html Large Pickup Conversion Mar 07, 2008 | 93 views http://electric-vehicle-discussion-list.413529.n4.nabble.com/Donor-truck-questions-tp4656362.html Donor truck questions Jul 08, 2012 | 47 views What are the Pros and Cons of using a 4x4 for a conversion? http://electric-vehicle-discussion-list.413529.n4.nabble.com/Quiet-4x4-tp2952152p2952197.html Oct 01, 2010 | 44 views Re: Quiet 4x4 Nearly any 1 ton truck or properly equipped 3/4 ton, including suburban or excursion; the latter two have some versions rated up to 12,000 lbs. There are many more examples, but I will stop as I think we all can see the interest in what vehicle is wide and varied. Also it may be, there are other reasons for the (above) person's dislike of the post. Perhaps because the conversion is of a Humvee. A Hummer has been the brunt of several outcries as possibility the most wasteful, excessive vehicle on the planet (when actually there are worse). Schwarzenegger only exacerbated that point with the use of his: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/02/26/AR2010022603248_2.html?sid=ST2010022605053 The Hummer and Schwarzenegger http://www.celebritycarsblog.com/celebrity/arnold-schwarzenegger/ [OT Also, the media-spread negativity of these vehicles used by the military as 'IED bait' from having thin IED protection: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1786411/posts Marines to trade in vulnerable Humvees Baltimore Sun via Seattle Times ^ | 15 February 2007 | David Wood http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2009/nov/19/troops-fear-ied-blasts-while-riding-in-humvees/ Troops fear IED blasts while riding in Humvees By Richard Tomkins - The Washington Times - Thursday, November 19, 2009 But take that vehicle out of that scenario, and that negative profiling does not apply. /OT] There are going to be people that will find a problem with seeing, driving, owning, or seeing someone drive or own a Hummer. But same as in one of the above posts, sometimes a vehicle many dislike, actually would fit their needs. The newswire mentioned the Hummers were purchased for $60k, but starting price on auction is $10k. That is like getting a 4x4 off-road capable large vehicle worth the price of the older (discontinued) $60k Tesla-S EV http://gizmodo.com/5020814/tesla-4-door-model-s-sedan-will-be-60000 in fairly new condition for only $10k. Then convert it to an EV, or in a similar way as the i3 (with the rex option) to an EV with a smallish on-board genset, that gives it just enough ice to get to the next EVSE, and you might be changing the vehicle's statement entirely to a civilian workhorse running on a more benign energy source, and make it less energy wasteful. Everyone has different needs, and thinks what they consider is 'normal' is the same as everyone else's 'normal'. I was told over and over, way back in the 1990s, that I should abandon any thought of converting a large vehicle, and convert the smallest vehicle I can find. One such smallish person insisted on this while looking up at me, shaking his finger at me, insisting that to do otherwise was insane. I knew he meant well, but it was pretty clear had no-clue what it was like to be my-kind-of 'normal' (6'6") in a world filled with munchkins. Though back then, I was quite svelte and could still try to fold my knees up in my face, there was no-way I was going to fit and drive safely in a VW Rabbit conversion. And I was not going to try to get him to see that, I knew what 'I' needed was a vehicle size that fit my needs: http://brucedp.150m.com/blazer/ 1985 S-10 Blazer conversion http://electric-vehicle-discussion-list.413529.n4.nabble.com/Re-s10-conversion-and-where-is-Bruce-td461621.html Re: s10 conversion and where is Bruce? Sep 08, 2009 | 19 views I knew there would be some that would harbor and spew such negative, anti-large vehicle views, not wanting to consider that others have different vehicle needs than theirs. So, I also chose one of the included newswires, to try to provide a little humor: -- they make great holiday gifts! Clearly that did not hit any funny bones with the above person. If anyone have views or comments of their own about selecting a large vehicle as a donor for their conversion project, I ask that they post them :-) {brucedp.150m.com} -- View this message in context: http://electric-vehicle-discussion-list.413529.n4.nabble.com/10-k-U-S-DoD-selling-slightly-shot-at-Humvees-4donors-tp4673095p4673105.html Sent from the Electric Vehicle Discussion List mailing list archive at Nabble.com. _______________________________________________ UNSUBSCRIBE: http://www.evdl.org/help/index.html#usub http://lists.evdl.org/listinfo.cgi/ev-evdl.org For EV drag racing discussion, please use NEDRA (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/NEDRA)
